Bethlehem Steel sign Brandon Allen

Former All-League, Rookie of the Year returns to USL

After the departure of Seku Conneh to the K-League and the first team signing Cory Burke to a contract, Bethlehem Steel FC had a bit of a hole at striker to fill.

Enter Brandon Allen, who you might remember as the former USL all-league and 2016 rookie of the year selection. You might also remember him wearing red or signing a homegrown deal with the New York Red Bulls.

Allen can put in goals, no question about it. Banging in 15 in the regular season of 2016 before adding 3 more in the playoffs, and a hat trick in the final that basically gave the New York Red Bulls their first ever cup at any professional level. Allen added 7 goals in 2017 for the Baby Bulls before being loaned out to MLS side Minnesota United, where he made only one 9-minute appearance off the bench.

Allen also tore it up before joining the professional ranks for the Georgetown Hoyas, where he was a teammate of Philadelphia Union defenders Keegan Rosenberry and Josh Yaro. While with the Hoyas, Allen put in 90 goals (school record) and 17 assists. He picked up his disposition with the famed college side, racking up four Big East titles and an appearance in the College Cup final in 2012. Prior to college, Allen was a teammate of Union midfielder Adam Najem in the New York Red Bulls Academy.

Steel FC head coach Brendan Burke had this to say:

Finally I’ll leave with a highlight package and remind you to think about the service he’ll be getting from his new Steel teammates Chris Nanco and Santi Moar.
