Philadelphia Union, DC United Battle to Wild 2-2 Draw

A late equalizer from striker Carlos Ruiz game the Philadelphia Union a well-earned road point in a 2-2 draw with D.C. United at RFK Stadium.

Dwayne De Rosario, acquired earlier in the week by D.C., was inserted directly into the lineup and delivered the assist on the game's opening goal, which was scored by United striker Josh Wolff. Oddly, it was De Rosario who led the team's celebrations following their goal, despite not actually being the goalscorer.

The Union would answer back, though, when a good cross into the box from Veljko Paunovic was dealt with terribly by Perry Kitchen, who kicked the ball backwards into his own net. Panouvic, recently signed by the Union, started in central midfield yet again and played 66 minutes before giving way to Gabriel Farfan.

Andy Najar of DC United gave his team the lead once again in the 58th minute when his audacious attempt from roughly 35 yards out beat Union captain and goalkeeper Faryd Mondragon. But the Union would come from behind once again when the team pushed numbers forward down a goal late. Sebastien Le Toux played a through ball to right back Sheanon Williams, who crossed the ball to Ruiz for a deflection into the net.

More after the break, including full match highlights.

The Union will continue their road trip next week when they travel to San Jose to play with the Earthquakes at Buck Shaw Stadium on July 9. Their next home league match is not until July 29. The team will play two matches at home before then, but they will be friendlies against European opponents Everton FC and Real Madrid CF.
