Chicago Fire vs. Philadelphia Union: Preview, projected lineups, how to watch
The Union are in Chicago looking to improve upon their East-best away record.
It appears that the Philadelphia Union’s brief mid-season slump has come to an end. With three wins in the last four and a return to full fitness for some of the club’s key midfielders, the Union have re-asserted their spot atop the Eastern Conference. Tonight, the Union travel to Chicago in search of their sixth road win of the season, which would equal the club record set last year.
Jamiro Monteiro and Marco Fabián have only started together twice, though tonight could mark the third occasion. Monteiro hasn’t started a game since suffering an ankle sprain on July 3rd, but he has played 70 minutes across the last two games. Expect to see Aurélien Collin alongside Jack Elliott once again, as the Frenchman has overtaken Auston Trusty on the depth chart.
For Chicago, former Union striker CJ Sapong has been lighting it up this season. The 30-year-old has scored a team-high 10 goals playing as both a winger and a center forward. He’ll likely line up on the left tonight, with in-form Nemanja Nikolić—three goals in three games—leading the line.
