Game Thread: Philadelphia Union 0 Columbus Crew 2 full time
The Union are eliminated from winning the conference and fall to third place
In-Game Updates
Full Time – all the results fell the Union’s way except the won they needed most: to beat the Crew
90’+1 Kacper goes in the book after a scuffle in front of the Crew goal.
77’ Fabian in for Fafa
73’ Just like that it’s 2-0 after Pedro Santos puts in a ball off a corner kick that is headed straight up and punched by Blake right to Santos.
69’ The Union don’t bury either of their chances and the Crew counter and open the scoring through Youness Mokhtar’s first MLS goal. Ugh.
64’ Monteiro with an even bigger opportunity there off the cross from Ilsinho across the face of goal but Miro skies it.
62’ Big chance for the Union there. Haris forces a turnover in midfield but he isn’t able to find Monteiro on the run to his left and Monteiro ends up knocking the ball out for a goal kick.
60’ Crew with a chance but Blake there to make the stop. Ilsinho subs in for Aaronson, who was the Crew did a good job keeping in check today.
52’ Full Time in Montreal. Atlanta United also drop points in a 1-1 draw.
50’ Full Time in Foxborough, NYCF fall 2-0 to New England Revolution.
And we’re back! New England leads NYCFC 2-0 and Montreal are tied with Atlanta United. The Union need a goal.
Looks like the second half is going to be delayed for a severe weather alert
Halftime – Not a great half for the Union, which didn’t register a shot on goal and were put under pressure on a number of occasions by the Crew
44’ Bedoya subbed out for Warren Creavalle after picking up an injury. Hopefully this is more a precautionary move than anything else.
42’ Connor Maloney with a cross to the six but luckily it doesn’t find a teammate and the Union clear it out. He’s looked decent today playing against Curtin, who coached the 2012 GA Cup-winning team he was on
31’ Gaddis with a bid for an assist in back-to-back games with a looping cross toward Kacper but Room is there for the catch
24’ Diaz played in with a step on Wagner but the Union left back slides and
14’ Monteiro goes into the book for a hard challenge on Connor Maloney. That’s going to be something to watch. That’s just his third yellow of the season.
7’ Monteiro wins a turnover in Crew territory and takes a shot from distance but it goes wide of the goal
Nervy moment to start as Crew win a turnover and Zardes is played into the box but Elliott is there and he’s taken out by Zardes
1’ We’re underway in Columbus
Starting Lineups
Brenden Aaronson, Mark McKenzie and Fafa Picault are back in the starting lineup in a 4-2-3-1. Andrew Wooten, Aurelien Collin and Marco Fabian to the bench. Fabian and Medunjanin will both face a suspension for the season if they pick up a yellow card.
Harrisburg native and former Union youth player Connor Maloney is starting at left back for the Crew. It’s his eighth straight start after making only one start and three appearances total since 2017.
