Alejandro Bedoya will miss Inter Miami game with yellow card suspension
Bedoya went into the book in the 59th minute
Philadelphia Union captain Alejandro Bedoya will sit out a one-game suspension and miss the game against Inter Miami on Sunday in Chester.
Bedoya picked up his fifth yellow card in the 59th minute when he went into referee Guido Gonzales Jr. after a challenge on FC Cincinnati midfielder Frankie Amaya.
He called it “a weak call” in a post-game interview.
“If I knew that was going to be a yellow card, of course I’m not going to injure anybody, but I would’ve taken a lot better one than that,” he said.
Bedoya’s likely replacement will be Anthony Fontana, who did not play in Wednesday’s game after scoring three goals in the Union’s last two games off the bench, including the game-winner to beat the New England Revolution in second half stoppage time.
Union midfielder Jose Martinez missed the game Sunday against the Montreal Impact serving a one-game suspension for yellow card accumulation.
Jamiro Monteiro is one card away from being suspended with four cards heading into Sunday’s game but he’ll get a card taken off if he doesn’t go in the book in the game since it would be his fifth straight game without a yellow.
Bedoya last missed a game for yellow card suspension last August against Atlanta United in a game the Union won 3-1 at home.
