Cory Burke ‘in-transit’ to return to Philadelphia Union

The long wait for Philadelphia Union striker Cory Burke’s return is finally nearing its end.

Head coach Jim Curtin said Tuesday that the Jamaican international was “in transit.”

“He is about to be in Philadelphia, which is the most positive news I can give for quite some time,” Curtin said. “Until I see his face I cannot confirm or deny he is in Philadelphia.”

Burke last played for the Union on April 20, 2019. He has 12 goals in 36 MLS appearances.

In 2019, Burke returned to his home country of Jamaica, and eventually got stuck in the country over visa issues. While initially expected to just be out for 3-6 months, Burke spent nine months in Jamaica before the Union loaned him to Austrian club SKN St Polten, where he played through the end of the season in early July.

Burke was first brought into the Union’s system in 2016, when he was loaned to the Bethlehem Steel from Rivoli United.
