Philadelphia Union announce transfer of 20-year-old Leon Flach from FC St. Pauli
Texas-born midfielder signed to a two-year contract with two club options
Leon Flach was officially announced as the newest member of the Philadelphia Union on Wednesday morning.
The 20-year-old Texas-born midfielder and left back was signed to a two-year contract with two club option years for an undisclosed transfer fee to 2. Bundesliga club FC St. Pauli. Previous reports cited a transfer fee figure in the $300,000 range.
“He is a promising young prospect who brings versatility to the field with his ability to play multiple positions in the midfield as well as left back,” said Ernst Tanner, Philadelphia Union Sporting Director, in a news release.
The U.S. youth international holds dual German and U.S. citizenship, which means he will not require an international spot. He’s the second player the Union have acquired from FC St. Pauli. Former winger Fafa Picault came to the Union from St. Pauli in 2017.
“Adding a natural left-footed player to our roster will allow for options and creativity in the midfield and we look forward to watching him develop in our system,” Tanner said.
