Julián Carranza has once again been voted as the Major League Soccer Player of the Matchday. This time it is for Matchday 17, when the Philadelphia Union took on CF Montreal beating them 3-0. Carranza netted two stunning goals in this match, taking his tally to six goals in his last six appearances, including two braces in his past three starts.

Since the start of the 2022 season, Carranza has scored 23 goals and provided 12 assists. His 35 goal contributions place him fifth in the league, trailing only Hany Mukhtar, his own teammate Dániel Gazdag, Luciano Acosta, and Lucas Zelarayán.

Carranza was instrumental in setting the tone for the match against CF Montréal, opening the scoring in the 12th minute with a curling shot that found the bottom corner of the net. After Mikael Uhre expanded the Union’s lead in the first half, Carranza’s deflected strike in the 61st minute sealed the victory.

Carranza currently sits third in the MLS Golden Boot race with nine goals, trailing LAFC’s Dénis Bouanga and Nashville’s Hany Mukhtar. Since joining the Union, Carranza has become one of the club’s top performers, recently surpassing Alejandro Bedoya and Ilsinho for the seventh-most goals in club history.

The Argentine striker has scooped the MLS Player of the Matchday honors twice in the last three Matchdays. This latest award marks his fourth since the start of the 2022 season, equaling the record set by Hany Mukhtar. Carranza has also made Union history, becoming the first player in the club to win the award four times.

The Union will now journey west to face the San Jose Earthquakes, marking their first visit since September 25, 2019. The game is set to kick-off on Saturday, June 10 at 10:30 p.m. ET and can be watched on MLS Season Pass.
