The MLS Next Pro Eastern Conference final is coming to Subaru Park thanks to the PK shootout heroics of a player with a long resume of winning shootouts and a rising star determined to keep the party going.

Andrew Rick came up with a pair of penalty kick saves to even the shootout and provide an advantage that CJ Olney capitalized on with a semifinal-winning penalty kick following a 1-1 draw with Crown Legacy 0n Saturday at Subaru Park. Olney scored the late winner in Union II’s first ever MLS Next Pro playoff win last Sunday and was the guy in lights again with his decisive kick from the spot.

For Rick it was another shootout win in a long line of shootout heroics dating back to his academy days with the club.

The shootout victory also avoided a late letdown when Crown Legacy was able to find a late equalizer to send the game to overtime. The Dylan Sing goal canceled out a first half lead provided on a headed corner kick by Olwethu Makhanya. Olney had the assist on the goal.

Saturday’s game was an emotional one from the onset with news of the death of Union goalkeeper Holden Trent. The team held up Trent’s No. 13 jersey prior to the start of match.

Union II will host the Eastern Conference final on Saturday against Columbus Crew 2, which beat Chicago Fire II to advance to the conference final for the third straight year.
