Talented midfielder Kellan LeBlanc will enter his second season in MLS Next Pro playing on a professional contract.

The 16-year-old’s signing to the second team was announced on Tuesday.

“Kellan is a talented young player who showcased his ability at the professional level with Union II last season,” Philadelphia Union II head coach Ryan Richter said in a news release. “He has become a key part of our midfield, and we’re excited to support his growth and further his development within the club’s pathway.”

LeBlanc is the eighth academy player to sign a professional MLS Next Pro deal. He made his debut with the team in March 2024 against New England Revolution II and was a key attacking player for the U-17 team in their run to the 2024 Generation adidas Cup. He’s been called up for United States U-15 and U-17 training camps.

LeBlanc was born in West Virginia when his dad Marlon LeBlanc was the head coach at West Virginia University. He joined the Union’s academy in 2019 after a stint with the Columbus Crew organization. Marlon took a job with the academy in 2020 and that spring became the head coach of Philadelphia Union II.

The LeBlanc signing news gives Union II four players on MLS Next Pro deals for the 2025 season. Mike Sheridan and Leandro Soria had their options exercised for 2025 and Jose Riasco is still under contract but on loan to Carabobo FC in Venezuela. Sal Olivas, Neil Pierre and Frankie Westfield have all had their contracts converted to first team deals but should still be regular starters for the team.

Other potential signings that haven’t been announced include 2024 MLS SuperDraft pick Stas Korzeniowski, left back Jordan Griffin and attacking talents Jamir Johnson, Willyam Ferreira and Malik Jakupovic.
