DOOPing Overseas: Findlay brace, Carranza left out of Feyenoord squad & More

A new season of DOOPing Overseas is upon us. With most major European leagues having kicked off this past weekend, former Union players are back in competitive action. Stuart Findlay served as an unlikely hero for his new team, a recent Union striker could be on the move, and the Aaronson brothers prepared for the start of their league seasons.

With sustained success this decade, fans have seen some of the brightest academy talents, their favorite players, and outcasts make their way overseas to compete in some of the best leagues in the world. The club is represented in Europe, South America, the Middle East, and more.

Let’s see how some of those former Union players fared in last week’s matches:

Stuart Findlay – The former Union center back is having one heck of a start to the season for Hearts in the Scottish Premiership. Findlay scored two goals and drew a penalty in a 3-2 away win against Dundee United on Sunday. In the 18th minute, Findlay was taken down in the box, winning a penalty for Hearts, which was calmly dispatched a minute later. The 29-year-old tied the game at two with a looping header to the back post in the 58th minute. Finally, in the fourth minute of five minutes of second half stoppage time, Findlay’s glancing header at the near post found its way in, winning the game at the death for Hearts. On loan from Oxford United, Findlay has three goals in two Scottish Premiership matches. He has been Hearts’ Man of the Match both times.

Julian Carranza – The former Union striker was left out of Feyenoord’s squad on Saturday as the Dutch side kicked off the Eredivisie season with a 2-0 home win. This was the second consecutive game Carranza was not named to the matchday squad, after sitting in the stands for Feyenoord’s 2-1 win over Fenerbahce in the first leg of the UEFA Champions League qualification round. Carranza played just 72 minutes in four preseason games, only featuring in two matches. While there is nothing concrete, Carranza’s name has been heavily linked with a move to C.F. Monterrey in Liga MX. Teams in Scotland and Spain have also been rumored to have interest in the 25-year-old, with a loan move or permanent transfer on the cards.

Kacper Przybylko – The former Union striker completed a move to Odra Opole in the 1 Liga, the second division in Poland, on August 7. Przybylko joined on a free transfer from Lugano in the Swiss Super League, where he had eight goals in 40 games Odra Opole finished one point out of the relegation zone last year, but sit in the top half of the table after four games this season. The 32-year-old began training with his new team last week and is expected to make his debut soon.

Jamiro Monteiro – The former Union midfielder played a strong 78 minutes in PEC Zwolle’s 1-0 home win over FC Twente to open their 2025-26 Eredivisie campaign. Monteiro completed 86 percent of his passes, won 70 percent of his duels, made seven recoveries, was fouled three times, and created one chance.
