Indiana company acquires YSC Sports and United Sports Center
Indiana-based Capacity Sports Group has acquired two local soccer facilities and a soccer tournament management company also based in the area.
Capacity Sports Group acquired United Sports Center in Downingtown, YSC Sports near King of Prussia and Sideline Soccer Solutions. Terms of the deal have not been disclosed.
YSC Sports and Sideline Soccer Solutions were both previously held by Striker Partners, an investment firm started by Philadelphia Union part owner Richie Graham. YSC Sports was home to the Philadelphia Union Academy before relocating to the WSFS Bank Sportsplex in Chester.
Capacity Sports Group was launched in January when scouting and events platform Prep Baseball merged with events and facilities management company Bullpen Tournaments.
“The addition of these well-respected companies into Capacity Sports Group is a statement about where our company is headed, which is a national youth sports platform regardless of the sport,” Ken Kocher, CEO of Capacity Sports Group, said in a news release. “We are not only adding quality facilities – we are entering soccer, flag football, field hockey, lacrosse, basketball, and volleyball at a genuinely elite level, with the complexes, the relationships, and the tournament infrastructure to compete at the top of each of those verticals. Most of all, we are adding an experienced and passionate team of sports leaders to our already impressive organization.”
Flag Football Life, which is powered by United Sports and operates NFL Flag Football leagues in more than 25 locations, and the Beast of the East tournament were also acquired in the deal. Ted van Beuren was the founder and long-time owner of United Sports.
“United Sports, YSC, S3, and FFL have a common mission to create a memorable experience for our participants and their families,” John Hatt, President of United Sports, said in a news release. “Capacity Sports Group shares that value. Together we have an unmatched platform to deliver on that promise on a local, regional, and national level.”
Founded in 1998, United Sports in Downingtown is one of the largest indoor and outdoor multi-sport complexes in the Mid-Atlantic and Northeast, featuring 218,000 square feet of indoor space, 11 professional-grade outdoor fields, and the Kinetic Dome, a 91,000 square foot climate-controlled indoor turf facility. It plays host to Penn Fusion Academy and FC Delco along with multiple soccer tournaments and showcases throughout the year. The facility recently hosted a spring game for Penn State women’s soccer against JMU and has also previously hosted training camp for the U.S. Men’s National Futsal Team.
YSC Sports, founded in 2008, is a 90,000-square-foot sports complex and player development hub serving more than 1,500 teams and 7,500 individual registrations annually. FC Europa’s youth teams and West Chester United’s adult amateur teams call the facility home.
