Poetry Corner Kicks: Union 1 – Revolution 2

As I write this recap, it is rainy, cold, and miserable outside; this coming on the heels of one of the most beautiful days that we have had all year. It is oddly appropriate given the Philadelphia Union’s latest results – some of the best all year – then moving into the loss to the New England Revolution. It doesn’t look like the rain will let up any time soon, with a visit to Columbus looming. But let’s not get ahead of ourselves. Let’s take a look at the Union’s latest loss…

Rain, rain, after such a gorgeous day
It never seems to stop
Though we wish it goes away

Goals, goals, after scoring them in bunches
Only came in ones
While the Union took their punches

Crossbar, crossbar, how you are so cruel
To keep the ball outside
Making ‘Nando look a fool

Chaco, Chaco, putting U on top
His bending, lightening free kick
Simply wasn’t stopped

Bus, bus, why must it now be parked
When up by one at home
It kills a fighting spark

Charlie, Charlie, got behind the Union D
New England got their goal
Which would start their scoring spree

Teal, Teal, his effort brought reward
He outran Sheanon Williams
‘Till he struck the ball and scored

Luck, luck, why must you hate the U
Two shots cleared off the line
As you bid Philly adieu

Rain, rain, after game time’s afternoon
Perhaps some wins will come
But for now we lick our wounds
