York, Pennsylvania native Shane Campbell will have a chance to start his professional career close to home. The former Louisville and Penn State defender/midfielder who spent time with the Philadelphia Union Academy announced that he had signed with the Harrisburg City Islanders on social media Tuesday.

"Signing for Harrisburg and being able to start my professional career in the 717 is a dream come true," Campbell said later via direct message on Twitter.

Campbell finished his college career in the fall for Louisville, where he spent two seasons after transferring from Penn State. An early season injury limited him to only five starts in nine games during his senior season, but he did score a 75th minute equalizer as a substitute against Virginia Tech. He finished his college career with 54 games, 38 starts, 4 goals and 3 assists and spent summers playing for Union Premier Development League affiliate Reading United AC.

Prior to college, Campbell captained local club FC Delco (now Continental FC Delco) and was part of the Philadelphia Union youth setup in its "club and country" days, earning a pair of appearances with the Union Reserves in 2011. He also played high school soccer at Dallastown Area High School.

He started playing soccer at age 7 for the Dallastown Demons in York.

"I can't wait to give back to the community that has given me so much in my journey to being a professional soccer player," Campbell said.

Blessed to announce that I have officially signed my first professional contract with the Harrisburg City Islanders ⚽️
