Eastern University defender Jacob Myers was named the national DIII Player of the Week after leading the Eagles to two shutout victories on both sides of the field.

The sophomore from Westminster, Maryland recorded a brace in a 7-0 win over Wilkes University and helped the back line edge King’s College in a 1-0 win. Myers and the Eastern defense allowed only three shots on goal over the span of 180 minutes in the two matches.

Myers, who played club soccer for Baltimore Bays, is fourth on the team in goals with four and has an assist. He had five goals in 20 appearances during his rookie season last year.

The Eagles are 12-3-1 overall this season and tied for second place in the MAC Freedom Conference with a 4-2-0 record. Myers was also named the MAC Freedom Conference Defensive Player of the Week.

The weekly player of the week honor is given by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America to standout performers in all three divisions of NCAA soccer. Myers is the second player with local ties to win the award this season. Elizabethtown College senior forward Jeff Light received the honor in mid-September.
