Roland Alberg (again) reportedly heading to CSKA Sofia

The MLS Playoffs have just started and transfer rumors are starting already

According to Bulgarian site 24часа (24 hours), Philadelphia Union attacking midfielder Roland Alberg has signed a contract with Bulgarian side CSKA Sofia and will be training with the team shortly. This isn’t the first time Alberg has been linked with CSKA Sofia, as Kristian Dyer reported earlier in the year that the Bulgarian side was interested in Alberg’s services.

The 27 year old Alberg had seven goals and one assist in 24 appearances for the Union this season, however he only managed to play 871 minutes and make just nine starts despite the Union not having a natural number 10 available. There was also the matter of a rather public spat with CJ Sapong when the two men argued over taking a penalty against the Columbus Crew. Alberg won the argument but missed the penalty.

The move would make sense for the Union, as the conventional wisdom indicates Alberg’s time in Philadelphia is over, having played just 12 minutes in the Union’s final two matches. The Union will also be looking to clear cap space for the 2018 season, and Alberg’s $345,000 base salary can be put to much better use.
