Rate the U: Slow start leads to a 0-0 draw
Union took a long time to get their first show, Mckenzie and Elliott work hard to keep the Rev’s off the board
The Philadelphia Union’s regular season is back underway, and it was another slow start for the boys in blue. With the early struggle, the U relied on goalkeeper Andre Blake to keep them in the game. Which is something Blake has been doing since the MLS is Back tournament in Florida. In this game he a great stop in 8th minute of the game.
Maybe your star of the match was the entire back line. Besides the early save by Blake both Mark McKenzie and Jack Elliott were crucial parts of the U’s 1 point. McKenzie had a great sliding block in the game’s 10th minute. Then in the 88th minute is was Elliott’s perfectly timed sliding tackle to send the ball out for a corner kick. Besides the slide tackles, the defense is doing a much better job than in Orlando. Instead of seeing the high number of saves by Blake, you are seeing a high number of clearances made by the back line.
