Brendan Krueger scored in the 60th minute to lead High Point to a 1-0 win over MLS Next Pro side Carolina Core in the first Holden Trent Community Cup match honoring the memory of the late Philadelphia Union goalkeeper at Truist Point Stadium in North Carolina on Tuesday night.

The match was a benefit for the Goal 13 Foundation, which was established after Trent’s death last October.

“It is such a special occasion,” HPU Head Coach Zach Haines said in a news article on the HPU website. “The initiative that Goal 13 took to partner with us and the Carolina Core is going to help so many people and it’s going to be a big deal for the community. I love the fact that we were able to be a part of it in our way to really launch it. I’m so excited about the future ahead.”

During halftime of the match, junior midfielder Jefferson Amaya was awarded the first recipient of the Holden Trent Memorial Scholarship, presented by Trent’s family.

Union Academy grad and former Union II midfielder Anthony Ramirez featured in the match for High Point and had a secondary assist on the game-winner.
