Tracking offseason movement of players with local ties

Living in one of the hotbeds of soccer in the U.S. means there is never a shortage of players to track in the offseason. As signings are announced we’ll keep you posted.

Dawson McCartney – Birmingham Legion FC
The Union Academy and YSC Academy grad from Voorhees, N.J. has signed with the USL Championship club after two years in MLS Next Pro with Portland Timbers 2.

Greg Ranjitsingh – Toronto FC
Toronto FC has signed Ranjitsingh to a new contract.

Ray Gaddis – FC Cincinnati declined option
Gaddis said thank you to the fans in Cincinnati recently on social media but didn’t officially say he’s retiring from soccer altogether. Does Indy Eleven need a right back?

Joe Bendik – Vancouver Whitecaps
Bendik signed with the Whitecaps on a one-year deal with a club option for 2025.

Stefan Stojanovic – FC Tulsa
The former Union II forward has signed with Tulsa’s USL Championship team for the 2024 season. The Union, meanwhile, still own his MLS rights after drafting them in the 2023 MLS SuperDraft.

Jamiro Monteiro – Gaziantep F.K.
The former Union designated player is leaving MLS with a move to Turkey.

Tomas Romero – NYCFC
The Philadelphia Union Academy grad from Cherry Hill, N.J. has joined Matt Freese with the Cityzens.

Ryan Becher – St. Louis City 2
The Philadelphia Union Academy grad and former Ocean City Nor’easters and Reading United standout has signed with St. Louis City’s second team for the upcoming Next Pro season.

MD Myers – Charleston Battery
The Delran, N.J. native was transferred from NYCFCII to the USL Championship club where he was signed to a multi-year contract.

Paxten Aaronson – Vitesse Arnhem
The Medford, N.J. native and former Philadelphia Union player has been loaned out for the remainder of the season.

Pierre Reedy – Spokane Velocity
The Kutztown native and former Lehigh Valley United and Reading United standout who played at Penn State is heading west to join Spokane Velocity’s inaugural roster.

Gia Vicari – Odense Boldklub Q
The Reading, Pa. native and former Penn Fusion and Baldwin School standout is embarking on a professional soccer career in Denmark.

Ally Clark – Odense Boldklub Q
The Jamison, Pa. native and former PDA standou has signed a professional contract in Denmark.

Andres Perea – NYCFC
Perea is back in New York on a permanent transfer.

Pablo Sisniega – San Antonio FC
The former Shipley School goalkeeper from Mexico is headed to the USL Championship after spending the last two seasons with Charlotte FC.

Morgan Hackworth – Spokane Velocity
The Union Academy grad is part of the USL League One team’s inaugural roster.

Brittany Ratcliffe – Washington Spirit
The Williamstown, N.J. native is heading to her sixth professional club since starting her career with the Boston Breakers in 2016.

Brooks Thompson – Hartford Athletic
Former Union II keeper Brooks Thompson has found a new home in the USL Championship, signing with Hartford where he’ll be coache by former Union II head coach Brendan Burke.

Fafa Picault – Vancouver Whitecaps
Fafa is heading to his fifth MLS team and first in Canada after signing as a free agent with the Whitecaps. His deal keeps him at the club through the season with an option for another year.

Jack Skahan – San Jose Earthquakes
The former Philadelphia Union Academy standout signed a new contract with the Earthquakes through the 2025 season with an option for 2026.

John McCarthy – LA Galaxy
The Philadelphia native and former Philadelphia Union keeper will be on the other side of the El Trafico derby next season after signing a two-year contract with LA Galaxy. McCarthy graduated from La Salle University and North Catholic High School and played club soccer at Lighthouse SC, Philadelphia SC and FC Delco.

Zack Steffen – Colorado Rapids
The Downingtown native and former FC Delco standout is returning to the U.S. after his second stint in Europe. Steffen was a member of the Jim Curtin-coached Union U17 team that captured the 2012 Generation adidas Cup, spent time with the Union Reserves and also played locally at Downingtown West, Malvern Prep, Lower Merion SC and West Chester United.

Jahmali Waite – El Paso Locomotive
The Jamaica international and Philadelphia Union Academy graduate heads to El Paso Locomotive after two standout seasons with the Pittsburgh Riverhounds.

Nicole Barnhart
Pottstown native isn’t ready to call it quits on her career. The 42-year-old goalkeeper from Pottstown signed a one-year contract to return to Washington Spirit.

Bolu Akinyode – El Paso Locomotive
The former Bethlehem Steel FC midfielder from Nigeria signed with El Paso after spending the last three seasons with Miami FC.

Marcus Epps – Hartford Athletic
The former Philadelphia Union winger joins Brendan Burke in Hartford after a career year with FC Tulsa.

Derrick Jones – Columbus Crew
The former Philadelphia Union homegrown who starred as a youth for Philadelphia Lone Star and the Philadelphia Union Academy before becoming the first signing to Bethlehem Steel joined the defending MLS Cup champions as a free agent.

Drew Skundrich – Loudoun United
The Lancaster native and former Philadelphia Union II midfielder joins Loudoun United after a season at Colorado Springs Switchbacks. Skundrich played at PA Classics prior to attending Stanford.

Joe Farrell – Hartford Athletic
The veteran center back from Blue Bell joins Hartford after winning the USL Players Shield in Pittsburgh. Farrell is a La Salle grad who played youth soccer at Philadelphia SC and FC Delco.

Connor Maloney
The Harrisburg native announced his retirement from professional soccer. Maloney won the 2022 USL Championship title with San Antonio FC.

AJ Paterson – Birmingham Legion FC
Former Bethlehem midfielder/defender joined Birmingham from Charleston.

Daniel Barbir – Indy Eleven
The Lehigh Valley native joins from Oakland Roots.

Jake McGuire – North Carolina FC
Former Union keeper joined North Carolina from Miami FC.

CJ Sapong – Toronto FC declined option
