Halftime Recap: Philadelphia Union 1, Seattle Sounders 0

In a game that the Union need to win in order to keep their playoff hopes mathematically alive, they lead at the half. Marcus Epps’s 28th-minute strike has the Union ahead of the Seattle Sounders through 45 minutes.

Epps’s goal came after a great sequence from the Union midfield, culminating with a left-footed finish from the right-footed rookie. A defense-splitting ball from Ilsinho found Epps in acres of space, giving the rookie plenty of time to bang one past Sounders goalkeeper Stefan Frei.

The Union were in clear control in the first half, keeping the majority of the possession and preventing Seattle from registering a shot. The Union took nine shots, with CJ Sapong and Fafa Picault each adding a shot on target.

Jim Curtin made four changes to his side from the mid-week clash in Atlanta. Richie Marquez came in for Oguchi Onyewu, Ray Gaddis started over Keegan Rosenberry, and Ilsinho entered for Warren Creavalle. Marcus Epps was a late addition to the starting lineup, as Chris Pontius was pulled due to discomfort in his abdomen.
