Friday Union Linkup

Hasn't been much news this week.  Some notes:

• LeToux should be back for Saturday’s game against FC Dallas.
• Seitz didn’t play in the Ecuador scrimmage which leads to another goalie controversy. Are we turning into the Flyers?
• The Seattle Sounders will refund season ticket holders when they lose. Surprised Drew Carey doesn’t just give everyone free tickets to see the Price Is Right.

Prediction Philadelphia Union: Considering the Union’s unblemished home record, it’s hard to go against the home team. In all seriousness, the home crowd may just be enough to carry the Union to another win. The team is losing, yes, but until the Union start losing at home the fans will continue to come in droves. It may not be pretty, but the W is all that matters. Philadelphia 2, F.C. Dallas 1. FC Dallas: Philadelphia Union 1-1 FC Dallas. It’s hard to see Philly getting more than one goal past FCD’s back line and Hartman. On the other hand, the hostile atmosphere and the Hoops’ penchant for not finishing chances will prevent Dallas from scoring more than one themselves.

MLS THIS WEEK  A look at the upcoming games
After going winless in their first five games of the season, FC Dallas broke through with two wins – one at home and one on the road – last week, and are hoping to keep the momentum going against Philadelphia Union. The expansion team was formidable in its only other home match, however, outlasting DC United 3-2 for their first and only win. The wild card for Philadelphia is Sebastien Le Toux, who remains day-to-day with a knee injury. The France-born striker has scored four of Philadelphia’s six goals, and the team’s attack has sorely missed his potent chemistry with Alejandro Moreno on attack. His inexperienced backups, rookies Jack McInerney and Danny Mwanga, are still on the upside of their MLS learning curve, and an attempt to move veteran Brazilian midfielder Fred up front with Moreno turned out not to be the answer. So far, Philadelphia’s best defense has been a good offense. A tendency toward careless defensive red cards has left inexperienced netminder Chris Seitz largely unprotected, and the result has been a whopping 14 goals-against. The Hoops boast one of the league’s most experienced and productive goalscorers in Jeff Cunningham, who has scored four of his 125 career goals this season, and a goalkeeper as seasoned as Seitz is raw in Kevin Hartman, who was in net for both of last week’s shutout wins. Promising rookie Jason Yeisley has made an impact off the bench for FCD this season, and, if he gets into Saturday’s match, will be playing in front of hometown fans. The Penn State product was born in Allentown, Pa.

“It’s very important to get to work and play against a team like this,” Union head coach Peter Nowak said after the game. “This type of experience is very valuable. We still have couple days before Saturday to get better and work on things that didn’t go our way the last couple of games.”

Sports in Brief: Did you hear the Sounders? | Philadelphia Inquirer | 05/10/2010
The Seattle Sounders FC announced Sunday they will offer a refund to season-ticket holders for their poor performance in losing 4-0 to Los Angeles a day earlier. The team announced that all season-ticket holders who renew their season tickets for the 2011 season will receive a game credit. Seattle has about 32,000 season-ticket holders.
