Union Concede Late Goal, Draw 1-1 With Houston Dynamo

After holding a 1-0 lead for nearly the entire game, the Philadelphia Union conceded a late equalizer to Geoff Cameron and the Houston Dynamo were able to leave PPL Park with a 1-1 draw. It was the Union’s third straight game without a win, and they have only won one of their last six games.

Jack McInerney, inserted back into the starting lineup for the fourth time alongside Veljko Paunovic at striker, scored his first goal of the season to give the Union a 1-0 lead in the 19th minute. The Union played solid defense in the first half, defending their 1-0 lead and only allowing a few half-chances to the Dynamo, the best of which came to Colin Clark in the 44th minute.

Philadelphia continued to create better chances than Houston during most of the second half. In the 84th minute, Sebastien Le Toux was sent in by Stefani Miglioranzi to a one-on-one with goalkeeper Tally Hall. Le Toux tried to slot it past him, but it hit the left post.

Unfortunately, that miss would prove crucial, as Cameron’s equalizer came one minute later. The draw kept the Union in second place in the East with 33 points, behind the Columbus Crew with 34 points. The Union have played one less game than the Crew. The Union return to PPL next Saturday to face yet another Texas opponent in FC Dallas.
