Philadelphia Union fetching $50k for three draft picks with potential for more from Nashville SC
The Union traded two picks in this week’s draft and next year’s first round pick for up to $225k in allocation
Nashville SC will pay a guaranteed $50,000 and up to $225,000 in allocation money for three SuperDraft picks from the Philadelphia Union, the team announced Tuesday.
The Union are trading the No. 46 and No. 73 picks in this year’s SuperDraft and next year’s first round pick for a guaranteed $50,000 in 20221 general allocation money. Up to $175,000 in additional allocation money tied to performance metrics of the players Nashville ends up drafting with the picks.
“Our philosophy is, and continues to be, focused on our academy pipeline as a source for cultivating young talent for our first team,” Ernst Tanner, Union Sporting Director, said in a news release. “As we see two homegrown players continue on to European leagues and ten total homegrowns on our 2021 roster, we’ve proven that our model and allocation of resources works.”
The 2021 SuperDraft is Thursday. The Union’s first round pick, No. 19, was sent to Orlando City for homegrown rights to Nathan Harriel, an Oldsmar, Florida native who Orlando was able to claim despite him never having played for their academy.
