Philadelphia Union homegrown Jack de Vries has been in concussion protocol since preseason, but he’s reportedly on his way to Serie A in Italy.
Brian Sciaretta, who tracks Americans abroad on American Soccer Now, said a loan for the 19-year-old de Vries to Venezia is going to be announced soon. He would join Tanner Tessman and Giancarlo Busio as recent exports to the Italian club.
De Vries played just 13 minutes in six appearances in MLS in his rookie season in 2020 and played 309 minutes in the USL Championship for Philadelphia Union 2. De Vries has an EU passport through his father, former Colorado Rapids player Raimo de Vries, who is Dutch.
De Vries has not featured for the first or second team this season. He’s been listed as being in concussion protocol since preseason and has trained off to the side. Head coach Jim Curtin said recently that he expected him to return soon but still needed to pass the final hurdle — a header test — of the concussion protocol.
