Haris Medunjanin linked with the Philadelphia Union

Reports that are as of now unconfirmed have linked Bosnia and Herzegovina international Haris Medunjanin to the Philadelphia Union. The left footed center midfielder would be joining by way of Maccabi Tel Aviv, who you might recognize as one of the two big names in Israel’s first tier of soccer. Medunjanin was released earlier today, and Maccabi confirmed he would be going to MLS on a three-year deal.

Before Tel Aviv, Medunjanin put together an impressive list of clubs, starting with AZ (yes, he’d be reunited with Earnie Stewart) and getting a pair of caps for the Netherlands U-21 team. Medunjanin was then loaned out to Sparta Rotterdam before returning to AZ, who would ship him to Real Valladolid in Spain. Medunjanin would then go to his first stint in Tel Aviv with Maccabi, then moving to Turkey’s Gaziantepspor before moving back to Spain to play for Deportivo de la Coruna before being shipped back to Tel Aviv a year ago today.

Haris would seemingly add some attacking prowess to the number 8 role, with the deep lying midfielder notching nine assists and two goals in 27 appearances this year spread out through the Israeli first tier, Europa League and the Israeli domestic cup. His attacking prowess might be the biggest asset he would provide if he does transfer over. His distribution and ability to find passes would be of a level we haven’t seen since maybe a former French midfielder who was mentioned a lot around these parts last year. If that’s the case the Union might be a bigger threat to the East then most thought this year. this seems like a good sign:

The Union did not respond to an initial request for comment, as they are currently en route to training camp in Florida.
