Hershey FC picks up first two wins over West Chester United and Buxmont Torch
Winless in their first five matches, Hershey won back-to-back matches in NPSL action last week
After surrendering 23 goals in five straight losses to start the season, Hershey FC’s defense limited Keystone Conference leaders West Chester United to one goal and shut down Buxmont Torch to pick up two wins last week in National Premier League Soccer action.
Coming off a 6-5 loss to Junior Lone Star FC where Joel Teston helped spark a rally with four goals, it was Hershey FC’s defense in front of goalkeeper Nick Jakobson that shut down Buxmont Torch on Saturday, paving the way for an 89th game-winner from Wyatt Fabian.
Hershey followed up the 1-0 win with four goals on Sunday against a team, West Chester United, that had only conceded one goal from the penalty spot in their first seven matches of their inaugural NPSL campaign.
Christian Wieand opened the scoring in the 12th minute and Teston fired home his team-leading sixth of the season less than a minute later.
West Chester pulled a goal back in the 51st minute with Joseph Sales’ third of the season, but it was another late surge from Hershey’s offense that put the game away – Shaq Hudson and Ugochukwu Okolie scoring in a five-minute span to secure the three points.
The loss for West Chester United was New Jersey Copa’s gain as the two teams are now tied at the top of the Keystone Conference standings with identical 5-1-1 records.
Junior Lone Star FC had the week off, but will resume NPSL play tonight away at Buxmont Torch. West Chester travels to Buxmont Torch on Sunday while Junior Lone Star FC will visit Hershey FC on Saturday.
