For the first time since 2019, the MLS Players Association released salary figures for the league, giving Philadelphia Union fans a glimpse at the team’s payroll for the first time in a while.

The figures reveal that the Union, which had the best record in the regular season in 2020, and won the Supporters’ Shield, have the third lowest total compensation in the league. They are also one of four teams under $10 million in total compensation, according to the data that’s been released.

It’s a staggering revelation that shows just how much the Union have been able to do with a limited budget.

Below are the individual figures for the Union, which don’t include Leon Flach or new signing Dániel Gazdag. We’ll be providing additional analysis as we spend more time with the data but for now a few things stand out.

-Two players top $1 million in guaranteed compensation: Jamiro Monteiro, who is a designated player and Alejandro Bedoya, who is not.

-Ilsinho is the seventh highest paid player on the team with a guaranteed compensation of $501,250.

-Philadelphia Union II players Selmir Miscic, who is on loan with USL League One club North Carolina FC, and Gino Portella, who has not previously been announced as a signing and has not played in any of the friendlies we have covered. Shaynder Borgelin, who was previously signed to a pro USL deal and is still on the team, is not listed.

-Matej Oravec ($284,500), who has not played for the Union, makes more than starter Jose Martinez ($251,250).

-17-year-old homegrown Quinn Sullivan is the lowest paid player on the list.
