He started the season as a false 9 (striker) to cover for the injured Alan Pulido. He then moved to his usual position in one of Sporting’s two advance midfield spots (commonly referred to as an 8).

LA Galaxy’s Derrick Williams handed extra 5-game ban for bad tackle
An extra five-game suspension is at the high end of what MLS tends to give for horror tackles. In recent years, they’ve tended to go for one- or two-game bans beyond the red card suspension itself, but dating back to 2011 they did ramp up bans in response to a spate of season-ending injuries on bad tackles.

Ruiz, 26, spent the year on loan at UD Las Palmas in LaLiga2, Spain’s second tier. He was among the league’s best players, with five goals and six assists in 37 league appearances.
