Shawnee girls soccer head coach Drew Wagner has been named a national high school coach of the year by United Soccer Coaches.

Wagner led the Renegades to a 25-0 record, a Group 3 state title and a South Jersey Coaches Cup championship. A Shawnee grad who played college soccer at East Carolina, Wagner has led the Shawnee program since 2003. Their state title was a first for the program and the coaches cup was the first since 2003.

Wagner received the national honor in the Large Public Schools category.

Wagner has experience coaching on the boys side too as a former boys assistant coach. He was an assistant when Ryan Franks won a state title in 2001. Franks led Shawnee’s boys to the Group 3 state championship and South Jersey Coaches Cup.

Wagner is also connected to the Philadelphia Union through his sons JD and Zach, who both played for the Philadelphia Union Academy and Naval Academy. He also was one of Brenden Aaronson’s club coaches when he was young.
