PPL Park to be used as emergency shelter
Starting at 11:00 AM today, the home of the Philadelphia Union will be open to residents of Chester who are still without power due to Tuesday afternoon's derecho.
According to 6ABC, PPL Park will be used as an emergency shelter starting today at 11:00 AM for residents of Delaware County. The people who go will be able to get a shower, get relief from the heat, and get a meal. Kristina Scala of the Delco Times reported:
Delaware County has a reported 40,000 people still without power due to the derecho (a storm characterized by straight-line winds and heavy rains) that hit the area on Tuesday evening. The weather event also flipped a car at the Deptford Mall in Gloucester County, New Jersey and left an estimated 280,000 people without power in Pennsylvania, New Jersey, and Delaware.
Update: Per a press release, the Philadelphia Union are also offering a “warm meal, access to restroom facilities and a cell phone charging station to local Chester firefighters, EMT, police and parks and rec. personnel.” This will be today from 11:00 AM to 2:00 PM in the concourse of PPL Park.
